Although my adventures into London’s sprawling underground network are certainly over, i do still have fond memories and tales of previous exploits that have yet to be told. | There we were, quietly perched in a dark crawlspace, slithers of light sneaking in from the station below. Supported by thin pieces of wire and screws, the panel on which we stood was clearly not designed to support human weight, our every movement causing the flimsy metal to creak, stretch and bang, threatening to fall. [...] I never thought Down Street would fall, another station to add to Christmas day wish list. located in the heart Park Lane district it appeared as an impenetrable fortress, one with no time for doubters and naysayers, protected by hotels, embassies and the rich. City Road Opened in 1901 on the Northern Line (City & South London Railway) but received little use from the start. On the 8th of August, 1922, when the lines between Euston and Moorgate were closed to facilitate the increase in the diameter of the tunnels up to 3.56m (Underground’s Standard Diameter), the underground review [...] I’m often asked why i seem to only focus my attention on abandoned stations within the London Underground, why not layups, disused branches and the sub stations that power the lines? Well the short answer to that, i don’t think any of the above are worth the risk. For me this was the end of the line, the trains sliding doors were open and we were at my stop. With the driver signaling he was about to depart i stepped off, the small taste of the London underground unforgettable.
