A revisit to the monster of Sussex. Colossus of the South, Brighton's biggest and certainly one of, if not the best system in the south of England.   .....

Finally some sewerfresh. I was beginning to think the Canadian people didn't need to poop. Oh well, onwards to the next steaming manhole.   .....

This was it, the time was finally upon us. Five years of waiting and finding funds to get to Canada had paid off. Lets begin shall we? Rankine.   .....

For a while now Manchester has been a dormant draining city. The initial explores seemed to satisfy all those who traveled there. The likes of Gorton Falls, Works and Processor were enough to deter any wayward worrier for exploring off the beaten track, and so it slept.

The beast is once again awake, Manchester's underground pipework stir again with a loud roar. The sewer fresh breath of life is once more given upon thee. We present to you "Hulme Flume". First discovered by Mr snap snap and Userscott, this drain has chamber and brickwork so mindbogglingly crazy it would even make the mighty fleet show its fangs as if under threat.

While not the most sporadic system in the world it did house several intercepting sewers each with its own large overflow chamber. We entered via a manhole in the middle of an estate, gun wielding 13 year olds checking out our rides and deciding who to "gat" first but luckily sewer freshness is like kryptonite to any burberry wearing chav, so we made our escape.

The main tunnel for flume is a culvert style pipe with red bricks and a flat floor. We could hear a rushing in the far distance so we decided we would head north and work our way south from there.

As we found our way through the stinky mist we came to a gigantic overflow chamber. A huge oviform tunnel housed in it the worlds biggest flood gate and the most intricate array of brickwork since crypt. One interesting thing we noticed was that the water in flumes main tunnel ran away from this chamber. So unlike London when the sewer overflowed here instead of it dropping down into a relief tunnel the chamber must fill slightly until the water goes over the barrier and containing down flume towards the sump.

We took a few pictures and headed towards the southern end of Flume checking the miniature overflow chambers along the way before the alarm sounded. It was the first time that Loops gas meter had ever gone off and i wasn't expecting it. Low oxygen levels hmm not good. We went a little bit further reaching the sump at the end. By now the gas meter was going off like mad and its reading now read danger instead of caution. so we decided to head out post haste.
