My first colliery and if there all like this one it wont be my last!. This was the last site on our stoke trip before the big meet. This is one of the most intact colliery i have seen everything is still there .4 headstocks, the loading rails and bathhouse

Visited with Alias, Littleelvis and Snappel

It took us a while to get into the site as its really well locked down. But after a bit of work we were in. Our first target was the largest headstock. It was quite scary to be honest as the whole thing was rusted to bits, stairs were missing and the ones that remained looked like they would fall off when you stepped on them.

We continued up and once at the top we beheld the views of the surrounding countryside and the rest of the site. We took a few pictures then headed down to the loading rails. I was told by snappel that finding rails like this intact is really rare as there usually the first bits to be knocked down. It looked like a childrens fairground ride with large barrel bit of the track would could be turned upside down to tip the contents into the containers below.

Next stop headstock number two. We had to climb another fence to get here and lets say snappel had a bit of trouble i went underneath and turned to see snappel calling for help as he hung upsidedown and backwards on the fence. We all laughed as we tried to help him over. We went over a small bridge and then headed up the headstock. This one was a little bit smaller then the other one but it still gave good view.

Back down and into the winding room. This is where the controls for the headstock were. I couldnt resist it and sat in the seat imagining what it would have been like to work there. A few photos and we headed out as we were an hour late for the meet already!.
