Finally a victorian mill that I didnt have to drive up to the midlands to see. Located in brands hatch it is now being redeveloped but completly abandoned when we visited. Most notable feature is the huge brick chimney standing it the middle which looks like a asylum water tower.
Access to the site is fun as you have to cross a river which means wet feet all around :). The site is fairly stripped to a certain extent with a few surprises such as a the main paper machine being intact, the mod room and the paperwork room.
Once we crossed the river we entered into a brick roadway leading to different buildings, we headed for the main one as we thought that would be the most interesting. Under the fence and in through a broken window. We came into a large vat room with a large hole in the floor where it had caved in. The lower level here acted as a stock room and still contained hundreds of cogs and different bits of machinery that would have been used by the mill.
From here we headed east into the larger part of the buildings and came out in a large high ceiling room with the main paper production machine, it was huge and still had rolls of paper sticking out of the end which was cool. We took a few photos then headed off into the offices which were full of old manuals and instruction booklets for anyone who worked there. Including uniform boiler suits embroided with the mills name on it.
Next stop the base of the chimney before we got to it we hoped we might be able to get up it thinking there might be stairs inside but sadly there wasnt, it was getting late so we headed back out and accross the river a good explore.
