Visited with BenWRX and The Riddlers while on our early 07 road trip
After waking up incredibly cold in the car after sleeping outside a petrol station we met up with Ben and headed up the path. Due to the place being worked on at the moment we had to be in before the builders.
As we came up the path the admin building came into view. Wow. A large gothic building with a massive clock tower in the middle.
High Royds is probally one of the most detailed asylum I have been to so far with impressive design in everything around the admin section such as the main halls and gallery. Not to mention the stage which underneath still had the pully rope and level system to change scene and actors!.
Once inside we headed straight through admin and into the main hall. Wow. A large ornate yellow painted roof covered a well preserved hall with ornate corridoors running along side with different carved roofs in each. After a few pictures we headed down underneath the stage to check out the pully system.
Next we headed northwards to some of the side parts of the asylum. To be honest there was too much of interest in these parts just a lot of hard work trying to get round the doors which had been locked. If it wasnt for this we would have been done in 30 minutes instead it took 2 hours.
The only notable feature we found was the new chapel which had a seperate soundproof area for spectators.
Back to admin and tried to find a way into the clock tower unfortuantly we couldn't and it turns out when Turkey and Dweeb went back at a later date we were looking at the wrong door. Woops
Oh well at least we saw some good bits!.
