This was a major pain to get into, all the ways down from the service are heavily and I mean heavily sealed, with blast doors, steel boards and an army of nails. After a little planning and a trip to the local archive it was decided there would be one more possible way in but it would require the aid of U.S.S Urban Explorer MKII. A new version of the MKI which sadly had to be scuttled in the medway due to a damaged hull.
I have to say we looked the part cruising through the streets of Camden dressed like hobos and carrying a inflatable boat. We were stopped several times by lots of goth's and emo's asking us if we were going to "surf" down the river. Unsure as to how you can surf in a boat, I simply replied no were off to the beach. We headed to our cast off point and I headed off into the water to check for any ways in. I was fairly worried as the water was the filthily it looked like oil and there was a stupid amount of objects floating around.
As I dodged the needles and floating wood like mines I eventually came to a small archway. I cast the anchor ashore and went to check it out. Bingo. Long arched passageways headed in all directions. We were in. I headed back to the boat to pick up fellow shipmate Robsey and rowed back. With the boat now secure we headed off into the darkness.
There was a lot of junk lying around, ranging from bikes to car parts all the way to old storage boxes from Jim Henson studios. We explored the eastern and western branch before finally heading north to the roundhouse sections. Midway up the tunnel we came to a breeze blocked wall with a single brick missing. The other side was a construction site. Where the new building was going to be all the tunnels had been demolished to make way for the new foundations. It was frustrating as just 40 meters on was the next tunnel taking us to the larger sections but sadly we couldn't get to it.
With nowhere else to go we decided to call it quits and headed back to the boat. After a quick row back up the river we were back on dry land and headed for the car. Job done?, there must be a way into the northern branch, another day perhaps.
