The black widow is a Russian u-boat which has been located in strood for a few years now future undecided. At present the sub is tilting as it appears to be taking on water.

Visited here twice the first time with Robsey and then we returned a week later with The Riddlers

Since the sub is in a river we had to use the comedy rubber dingy method to get out to it. With a weight limit of 80kg it really wasnt designed for taking two fully grown men with camera equipment so we took it easily, and after ten mintues of careful rowing and navagating around boats we were on board.

We headed into the bridge and once we found the hatch we went down into the stale air. We left the lid open and locked it so it wouldnt close on us as that would be a bit of a pain.

We climbed down the ladder passing the periscope which you could still look through and landed on the ground floor. We decided to go to one end of the boat and work our way through. We opened the first hatch and went through where i got the shock of my life. As i went through i turned my torch to the left and over what i thought was a person. IT turns out it was a dummy wearing a sailor suit. After i regained my breath we continued into the torpedo room.

A few photos and we began to work our way to the other end. Passing the radio rooms, control rooms, sleeping quaters and ending up in the engine room. A few more photos and we continued to the end. We ended up in another torpedo room.

It was now getting very late so we went back onto the deck for a final group shot then headed home.
