For a long time the fate of Shoreham cement has been balancing on the knife edge held by the local council executives. Shoreham’s owners at the time, Blue Circle, had planned to redevelop the site, bringing it up to modern standards, aiming to reopen it in 2010. I don’t know anything about the cement industry, i don’t really care enough to look into it. However, from the cement works I’ve seen in and around London, sites which take up less then 1/30th of the space Shoreham does, i cant help but feel it would be easier and cheaper to just bulldoze the entire site and start anew?

In the years since my first visit, Shoreham has been speedily deteriorating, the walkways, platforms, machines and the structure itself is little more than rust, seemingly beyond repair, but the owners must have a plan, right?

One of the main reasons I like Shoreham is due to the graffiti that litters the site. Of course you still have tags scribbled by prepubescent kids, gallantly trying to impress their local “krew”, but you also have pieces, stencils and full size throw ups, clearly the result of time and effort. Some better then the garbage you find in galleries today, promoted by the fascination by ”turd in a can” modern art.

Haven’t been to Brighton in a long while, not really heard anything of interest come through the grapevine of any new places to visit!
